Emotional Intelligence - الذكاء العاطفي
How do we say “Emotional Intelligence” in Arabic?: الذكاء العاطفي In this video, I combine my best 6-month effort at learning Arabic with a professional interest and something I *thought* I was already good at: presenting. The result — after fairly extensive internet research — is a unique presentation of Daniel Goleman's Emotional Intelligence framework in (charmingly flawed) conversational Arabic, with modifications appropriate to Middle Eastern culture and social dynamics. I'm calling it "a successful failure" because the learning points were many, including: - The sheer effort it takes to work across cultures, languages, alphabets, and multi-lingual keyboards. - The dominance of Western/English ideas and language in Organizational Psychology and Management Science — and even in the software, image search/generation, and slide alignment tools we use every day. - The skill it actually takes to "speak" a language. The mantra I'm taking away: "Learning a language means embracing the daily embarrassment and discomfort that comes with trying to speak it in public."
